In the 3rd year of the Skier's Edge U.S. Masters Team, members of the team won't have to choose whether to race in the Nationals at Big Sky or the World's in Italy. They plan on doing both with great success.
In its first year at the World's in Sun Valley, the team's results were outstanding. They won an unprecedented majority of medals against over 500 foreign competitors. Bob Skinner had the fastest time overall in the Slalom, while Victor Roy had the fastest time overall in the GS.
But how well would they do against Europe's best in their 2nd year, on European snow, with just 7 racers? Seven members of the team (now known as the magnificent seven) gave up their opportunities to compete at the conflicting scheduled U.S. Nationals in order to test themselves against Europe's best at the World Championships in Alpe d'Huez, France. The team consisted of Knut Olberg, Victor Roy, Dennis Wilhelmsen, Steve Linck, Haldor Reinholt, Eric Klemme and Sally White. They had no expectations - just guts to test themselves on European snow.

The results were history and they left the Euros stunned - who are those guys in black? Are Americans really that good to beat us they asked? - or was it just a fluke of good luck? After all, by CLASS they won 5 Gold, 3 Silver, and 1 Bronze. OVERALL they won 3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze! 14 medals by just 7 racers! This was no accident, but just a sample of things to come!
They learned that they could in fact be competitive with the Europeans on their home snow. At the same time, back at the U.S. Nationals in Sunday River, their teammates were taking care of business as usual collecting a record 26 medals: 12 Gold, 3 Silver, and 11 Bronze. Can anyone really question the abilities of the American Masters racer? This year - the team's 3rd year, the international goal is now in reach. The original goal of the Skier's Edge U.S. Masters Team was to create a team that could compete on an international level and demonstrate that U.S. racers were serious about skiing - and they were GOOD!
As the main sponsor, the Skier's Edge Company is committed to Masters racing and the athletes participating in the sport. Their goal is to elevate Masters racing to a new and highly visible level, one never before achieved.
Just after the conclusion of the U.S. Nationals in Big Sky, the Skier's Edge Company expects to take approximately 20 racers to the World Championships in Limone Piemonte, Italy. These racers will have earned the right to compete in the World Championships.
What makes a Skier's Edge U.S. Masters Team racer? Anyone can become a member of the team. The requirements are simple. Each athlete is selected based on how well respected they are throughout the racing community, their current ranking in their respective Masters class, and their ability to act as an ambassador on behalf of the Skier's Edge Company in the National and International racing communities.
